Joel Davies Cricket Coaching

About Me

I have been playing cricket since I was 10 years old starting out at South Barwon Cricket Club. From there, I was fortunate enough to progress to Geelong and Victorian junior representative cricket honors where I was lucky enough to be Captain of the Victorian U/19’s in my final year.

I developed into a batting all-rounder as a senior cricketer, playing for Geelong Cricket Club (VCA) in the first XI for 4 years, whilst being involved with the Victorian Bushrangers and the Victorian 2nd XI team in the Cricket Australia Cup.

In the 2009/10 season, I was poached by the South Australian Cricket Association, and asked to move across, where I was awarded a contract the following season. During my time with the South a Cricket Association I featured regularly in the 2nd XI team and was a part of the T20 Champions League squad that travelled to South Africa, where the team placed third in the tournament.

I have also had experience in being around the Australian Cricket team, where I was 13th man and a substitute fielder during the 2010/11 Ashes Series in Australia, which allowed me to gain invaluable experience in the inner sanctum of an elite team, and learn how such an outfit operates.

Using all the knowledge and experience I have gained in my career and while listening and playing with some of the greats of the game, I have a great passion and interest in passing this onto all cricketers to develop their talent and allow them to be the best players they can be.

I look forward to having the opportunity to work with all individuals and groups.

Why Joel Davies Cricket Coaching?

For coaches and captains, this will allow clubs who have given young up and coming coaches and captains leadership opportunities to hone them using Joel Davies Cricket Coaching. I will pass on as much expert based coach and captain skills necessary to help the coaching staff and club succeed. My cricketing interactions and coaching experiences are:

- Current Victorian coach Greg Shippard,
- Current Melbourne Renegades and Hyderabad Sunrisers assistant coach Simon Helmot
- Current England bowling coach David Saker.

For the players taking part in being coached, they will have access to first class cricketing knowledge that is based on having trained and played with elite cricketing teams and being coached by National and state coaches. Players I have played with and against and learnt from are:

- Aaron Finch
- Brad Hodge
- David Warner
- Patrick Cummins
- Cameron White
- Steve Smith
- James Pattinson
- Peter Siddle

Club Coaching – Player skills

I want to offer the skills I learnt whilst playing at the highest level and training with some of the greats of the game, and pass this on to as many players I can.

This coaching package is aimed at teaching batting, bowling and fielding to the entire playing squad of a cricket club. I believe when given the opportunity to work with groups of bowlers, batters and fielders, that I can develop the skills of the players and teach them new skills, techniques and drills.

This will allow the players coached, to take away important knowledge and cricket skills they can use and apply in the future.

These sessions can be run with a general skill set planned by myself, or the club can decide on which skills they would like to be improved upon, and communicate this prior to the sessions starting.

For several club booking sessions, I will also use my Personal Training qualification to cricket-specific player fitness and demonstrate how important fitness is to being a successful cricketer.

* These packages are tailored to either junior or senior grades

Club Coaching – Coach development & club leaders

I want to pass my in-depth knowledge on to club coaches and leaders alike for them to put in to practice for their playing group.

This package will involve three levels of service.

The Premium package will involve at-length discussions with the personnel involved, where I will deliver a presentation centered on batting, bowling and fielding techniques, approaching player improvement (mental & physical elements of cricket) and game-based scenarios and field placings. This can be lead by myself, or the club coaches can drive the discussion to get what knowledge they want out of sessions. This includes a training aid being gifted to the club at the end of the session.

The Gold package is aimed at giving coaches the knowledge on batting, bowling and fielding to pass on to their playing group, which can be implemented during weekly training sessions to improve player skill and output. I will also include the mental and physical aspects of cricket and how to condition players in these areas.

The Silver package will give coaches the power to teach their playing group batting and bowling techniques and the skill set to run cricket-based fielding drills to improve player input in the field; which all cricket players know can be the difference between winning and losing a game.

* These packages are tailored to either junior or senior grades

Winter Program – Group

We all know how form during the off-season can deteoriate. For the players wanting to improve their form for the up-coming summer, signing up to a winter coaching program is the perfect way to do so. The winter program will allow players to improve their form in the off-season to achieve improved goals in the coming cricket seasons. These sessions are offered weekly and in a group format, with a minimum of four participants to run each session. These sessions are 45 minutes long and cover:
- Batting technique
- Bowling technique
- Fielding skills
- Mental and physical aspects of cricket

Summer Program – Group

For some cricketers, the usual Tuesday-Thursday sessions are not enough to achieve their goals. By signing up to the summer coaching program, players will gain a valuable edge against their opposition by getting expert-based cricket coaching. Extra weekly coaching will allow players to work on skills week-to-week and implement newly taught skills on game-day. These sessions require four participants, are an hour long and cover:
- Batting technique
- Bowling technique
- Fielding skills
- Mental and physical aspects of cricket

Group Sessions

Cricket is a team sport, and what better way to grab a mate and enjoy expert-based cricket coaching. These sessions require a minimum of two participants and will give players the drive and determination with a mate to improve batting, bowling and fielding skills. These sessions will allow players to give input in to which aspects of their game they would like to work on and improve. Sessions can be either 45 minutes or 60 minutes in length.

Individual Sessions

One-on-one coaching is the best way for a player to improve their cricketing ability and output. Under the watchful eye of an expert coach, players will be assessed and have the opportunity to work on all areas of their game, or on their chosen discipline. These sessions are fully interactive and will give players the opportunity to discuss cricket tactics, decision-making abilities and game plans. Sessions can be either half an hour or an hour in length.

Packaged sessions can be worked out for players wanting on-going expert training to improve their cricket.

Pro Package

This is the ultimate training package for any player wanting serious improvement and results in their ability.

These packages will be offered with a minimum of 10 one hour sessions to allow players to work on every facet of their game.

Over the 10 sessions, players will have the opportunity to work on batting, bowling and fielding. Along with this, the package includes the mental approach to cricket, game-specific scenarios and feedback after each session.

Players will have their sessions filmed and reviewed throughout the sessions in order for them to have real-time analysis. A written report will also be provided at the conclusion of the program.

Another key part of this program is fitness-based cricket specific training to ensure players are match conditioned to ensure maximum output and results.

Joel Davies Cricket Coaching strives to develop junior and senior cricketers from around the Western Victorian region.
